Hello Weekly Drop readers! We're launching at DrupalCon Lille, and we need some adventurous front-end developers to help us test things out before the big event (no Drupal experience required).

Will you join the private beta, take it for a spin, and report your experience? If you'd like to get involved, please email beta@applura.com. When you complete this mission, should you choose to accept it, we'll donate $50 to the Drupal Association in your honor 🛡️

Howdy! We're Gabe and Peter (gabesullice, zrpnr). We're both long-time Drupalists and decoupled-Drupal aficionados. We have over 20 years in the Drupal community between us, and we're really excited to share something we've been working on with you.

What is it?

We built a Drupal-based web application platform. You can use it to build custom designed web experiences with only HTML, CSS and JavaScript—without giving up the awesome data modeling and out-of-the-box features you know and love about Drupal.

We're not like other service providers you're familiar with, Applura hosts and delivers everything your front end needs, and we operate the back end data modeling and authoring UI for you (lovingly crafted with Drupal of course đź’™). We also built the infrastructure to render your HTML on the fly without any build hooks or tedious SDK integrations.

Framework freedom

Applura isn't a framework, nor do you need to learn one. No matter what your favorite front-end tools are, we've got you covered. To tie things together, we provide a simple JavaScript module to integrate your front end with the back end. And we mean simple… it exports 3 functions:

start()

Sets up a connection to the back end and returns an async iterator. No args.

stop()

Tears that connection down. No args.

follow(link)

Navigates your app page to page. One arg.

That's the entire API!

The buried lede

To sum things up, Applura offers:

  • Unlimited design flexibility
  • All the data modeling, content editor capabilities, and out-of-the-box features that you're accustomed to with a self-managed Drupal
  • And the low maintenance overhead of a Software-as-a-Service product.

We think we're making web development a greater joy. We hope you'll think so too, so please, stay tuned and look for us again in next week's Weekly Drop newsletter!
